"WORACHAK" THAILAND BIGGEST AUTOPARTS MARKET
Starting at Chareonkrung Road (SAB Junction) to Bumrung Muang Road (Mansri Junction) which has political division line through Banbat sub-district, Pomprab sub-district and Debsirin sub-district in Pomprab Sattupai district, Bangkok.
With the royal favor of His Majesty the King Rama 5, Worachak road began the construction as appeared in an official document of Ministry of Public Work in 1896. The name “Worachak” is a part name of His Highest Prince Worachak Tharanupab (Prince Pramote), son of His Majesty the King Rama2 and The Queen Consort Ampa (Pramote Origin).
Since 1927, the 80 years old shops at Worachak area have been still uniquely connecting commercial buildings; wooden partition doors equally 3 meters wide, both English and Chinese name signs which generally indicate car, motorcycle and bicycle repair and auto parts shops.
Formerly there were a few shops which supplied auto spare parts for European cars only, such as Desoto, Chev, Jeep, Land Rover. After 1947, the Japanese cars become more popular causing the shops to change their business from traditional coffee shop, repair shops and wood shops into auto spare parts shop.
Presently auto parts business has much changed its marketing style. More entrepreneurs and the area extended to Mansri, Lanluang, Nanglerng, Rongmuang, Sam Yan and nearby areas. Then the auto spare parts business has become more interesting.
According to official survey, Worachak area is the biggest auto spare parts area in Thailand, consisting of about 300-400 shops supplying Japanese cars auto parts and European cars auto parts in 85% and 15% respectively. About 10% of all shops has regular export activities including delivery to neighboring countries, and 90% has only local supply.
